Hell Week!!

Well this has been a crazy week at the Hancock house. It all started last Saturday while I was giving the kids a bath. I notice this lump on Colby in his groin area. Chris looks at it and says it looks like a hernia. I have no clue what they look like so it was better than me thinking it was a tumor so I went with it. We were headed over to my dads for dinner and Shannon (basically my step-sister who is a OR Nurse) was going to be there so I figured I would have her check it out. She said yeah that's what it looked like to her and to have it checked out. So because he wasn't in any pain, I got him an appt for Wed when I was off. So I took him in and Dr Kartchner said that he was 99% sure it was a "strangulated hernia" (I can't pronounce let alone spell what it was really called!!). Anyways he tells me he wants to call Dr Carter to see if he can do it or if we will have to see a ped. specialist. So he comes back in the room about 2 min. later and says that Carter can do it, so to just head over to the OR pre-op area and he was there waiting for us!! I looked at him and said "now, but we will miss his pre-school graduation. It's at 2 today." (stupid I know) He told me "oh well". So I freaked out, and called Chris to meet us there. Luckily I have left the girls with Chris's mom. So we get there, and they start prepping him for the surg and of course he was freaking out. He didn't want them to cut him. But Shannon was there, and helped make it less scary for all 3 of us!! After they gave him the drugs to put him to sleep, he calmed down a little. We were not able to got back with him, but Shannon did, I was so thankful she was working that day!!! He did great in the surg, and came out fine. They ended up letting him go, and we were home by 3. It was a crazy day, but he is doing great. Just very sore. Every time he moves and cries in pain, he says- "I wish I never had a hernia." Funny, but so sad.
We missed his pre-school graduation but he did officially graduate. I was really bummed and tried and tried to get him to sing me the program songs while we were waiting for the surgery to keep his mind off it and he told me that he will NEVER SING THE SONGS!! So I guess I will not be hearing the songs. :)

Then on Thurs am Macie and I were taking a nap. I woke up in a panic thinking I had slept for hours and practically ran into the living room. Becca was sitting on the couch and as soon as she saw me started babbling on and on about a snake. I found Chris in Colby's room and he said that he heard Daisy barking like crazy so he opened up the front door and there was a dang rattle snake all coiled up in the grass. He was able to kill it before it struck at him or the dogs- thank goodness. Now every time I look out the front window, Daisy is walking around the yard sniffing it like she is making sure there is no more out there. Magnum has trained her well!! I am so bummed that we have already found them in the yard. Usually it's not until the end of July that we find them out here by our house. Hope this isn't a sign for what the rest of the summer is going to be like!!

I forgot the scariness of rattle snakes. We always find them around our house in Pima. Hope Colby is hanging in there. What a week for you!

Holy cow. Poor Colby. The poor kid can't catch a lucky break! Glad to hear it went well and he is recovering! Good luck with the rattle snakes! I must admit, that is one thing I do not miss about Arizona!
